The Founder - Living Off the Land
« on: June 02, 2009, 01:14:08 AM »
When I start a custom neighborhood, the founding sim moves into a 5x6 lot.  He  is not allowed to take a job.  Can't call for delivery of food.  He must live off the land.  My founder is always a male sim because of the amount of time it will take for him to support a family.

The challenge:  To live off the land until the founder or descendants are able to build a general store.

Required EPs: OFB, Seasons.

Required Mods
  • Any of my higher bills mods found in the CIF section.  As an alternative, simmodder's cd_bills mod found on MTS2.  The bills will run 500 simoleans for an empty 5x6 lot.  Improvements will increase the bills.
  • nobody's Empty Refridgerator mod (www.insimenator.org) or similar mod so when you buy a fridge, there is no food with it.

Restricted Mods:
  • Any mod that makes customer experience in an owned business only positive.  This will rule out many of Squinge's mods related to OFB.

Other Mods:  You are free to use whatever other mods you wish.  However no mod can be used to increase motives or household funds.  Paladin's OFB fixes and business facilitators are acceptable.

Restrictions
  • If the Humble computer is delivered, it must be sold in Buy Mode, unopened (0 simoleans).  If it is opened, it must be sold and family funds used to reduce the household funds by the amount gained in the sell.
  • The genie lamp and any aspiration award may not be used.
  • A townie moving in will come with often times an extraordinary amount of money.  The money must be deducted using family funds.  An alternative would be to use Inge's Teleporter (www.simlogical.com) to move the sim in.
  • You must have the seasons, Summer, Fall, Winter, Spring, in that order.  The game starts towards the end of Summer.

Anything caught, grown, or dug up can be used as you see fit.  All of your food and income have to come from the lot or crafted on the lot.

A home business must be opened as soon as possible to sell what you will.  Until the home business is open, you can use Buy mode to sell.  After it's open, you can only sell through the home business or an owned business.

The general store must contain grocery stands and clothing racks.  Anything else you want to add it up to you.  Once the requirements for the general store have been met, you may sell it back to the community.  All other restrictions are lifted.

Hints:
There's not enough growing season to harvest before winter arrives.  Stock up on fish.

Bills for just the bare minimum dwelling will cost circa 600 simoleans twice in the first week.  Start digging.

Open a home business as soon as possible.  You can get more money when selling your merchandise.

You need to stock the fridge with fresh food for baby bottles.  Fresh food also allow you to cook something other than fish.

I usually will not add another playable sim until after the general store is open.
